From AI Imagery to Galactic Adventure: The Making of the 'Quasar' Music Video

On May 21st, I took a bit of a leap. I decided to launch a video for my song "Quasar" on YouTube. It wasn't just your standard music video though; it was a bit of an adventure that tied together my interest in AI-generated images with my love for music.

In the past few months, I've really gotten into creating some intriguing visuals using Midjourney. It seemed like a good idea to bring these images into a music video – it just felt like a natural progression. But I thought, why not go a step further? I attempted to loosely create a storyline, involving a quasar – a black hole in a remote galaxy – and a group of adventurous cyborg explorers.

These cyborgs, entranced by the cosmic phenomenon, got a bit too close to the event horizon. Their curiosity unfortunately led them straight into the crushing gravity of the black hole. It didn't end well for them.

To give the visuals a little extra punch, I used depth mattes to add a 3D effect while I put the video together in Adobe After Effects. The images don’t completely tell a coherent story, but it was more my intent to set a particular mood that aligns with the rhythm and atmosphere of the song. Filling the 5:36 minutes was quite a challenge, but honestly, it was a lot of fun as well!

I'd love it if you took a moment to check out the "Quasar" video on my Media page or directly on my YouTube channel. I'm really keen to hear what you think!

And this isn't the end of the line. I've started putting together a new music video for "Tidal Pools", another song from the same album. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you soon!
